One Stop Shop for DIY snacks and breakfasts you can take into the backcountry to fuel yourself this fall.

We’ve talked a ton on the podcast about great DIY snacks and breakfasts you can take into the backcountry to fuel whatever it is you’ve got on the agenda.

Most recently, Mark (Exo Mtn Gear) have talked alot about our individual recipes for bars we’ve found making it into our packs more times than not.

Most recently, we covered these in a podcast and promised recipes…and we delivered!

Below you’ll find two separate recipes.  The one Kyle tends to take most often is the Audrey Bars- affectionately named after a family friend who gave us the original recipe.  Marks is a DIY recipe he’s refined over trips he’s taken in the backcountry or on Death Hikes.

Each have different ingredients, nutrition profiles, and textures.  So, we encourage you to try both and experiment with what you want to put in the mix…make it your own!

Audrey Bars

Texture: Soft and akin to a granola bar.

Nutrition: Less dense with carbohydrate and protein being the main nutrients.

Prep: Simple.  Kyle recommends doubling the cinnamon and vanilla if you opt to reduce sugar content.  Recommended brown sugar, eggs, etc. will make it less crumbly.

Travel: Good and shouldn’t break apart on you.  You can vac-seal them for a firmer bar.  Kyle suggests Marks will travel better for longer hunts.

Mark’s DIY Backcountry Bars

Texture: Firmer in texture with solid notes of chocolate and peanut butter.

Nutrition: Much more calorie dense with fat and protein being the predominant nutrients supplied.

Prep: Simple, but will require some persistence to marry the wet and dry ingredients.

Travel: Excellent.  Mark recommends vac-sealing them if possible.

Finally, we wanted to hook you up with some other resources that you may find helpful as you gear up for another season outdoors.

Regardless of whether you try any of the options here or find yourself munching on a poptart, we wish you a great fall in the outdoors and a belly full of rich memories.
